Forgetful, selective memory or absent minded, whatever we want to label it. It seems to show up when we need to extend grace or mercy to someone. I’m not sure if we get amnesia or blank out for a bit, but for some reason, we forget how much grace we’ve been shown and how much sin and foolishness has been erased on our behalf. Our redemption came with a truck load of undeserved favor. “So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.” Ephesians 1:6-8 NLT. We are carrying an abundance of grace daily, so why is it so hard for us to share that same favor to our fellow humans?
This leads us to our challenge today, “Making the Choice to Give MORE GRACE”. Today we are going to be incredibly generous with the grace that we dish out. We are going to remember all that has been forgiven and covered by our redeemed and offer that same favor to those around us. After all its pretty clear in His word that there are consequences for choosing to deny grace. “But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:15 NLT. “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.” Matthew 6:14 NLT.
It’s really simple if we think of God’s main concern, “Love your neighbor as yourself”. If we put that to use intentionally, paired with a humble heart, it will make it easier to give grace generously. We all need grace and we all want for people to extend it where we fail. It should be a constant cycle amoung us like a pulley system. We have to each be on either end transferring the grace from one to another. However the pulley system only works properly with humility as the rope. “Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.” Ephesians 4:2-3 NLT.
Lord Jesus, today we thank you for the grace and mercy that you have shown to us. Give us you heart so that we can generously give the grace that you have given to us to share. I bind every spirit of pride that would hinder us from forgiving and granting mercy. Strengthen us in humility and bind the tongue that would hinder your will. Thank you God for your work in us. In Jesus name Amen!
Let’s give generously people!
