Choice Challenge #10: Making the Choice to Choose

Okay, so I’m still practicing the art of gorging on the word of God. But let me tell you, I didn’t realize that my spirit man was not as nourished as I thought it was. We don’t realize how many other things we choose to interact with that have nothing to do with Jesus until we are face to face with the reality of it. I must say though, that practicing our gorging skills will not go without reward. I am sure that the Lord will honor every second that we delight in His word and presence.

All of the choice challenges that we have bravely walked into this past couple weeks have led up to this last challenge. Which is the one choice that I pray we can all make on a regular basis with out thinking. “Making the Choice to Choose”. The choice to CHOOSE Jesus in every circumstance. By “Choosing Jesus” I mean, intentionally choosing His ways in all we do.

We can easily select small areas that we struggle with in our personal lives and be determined to make a change to go in a different direction in that area. Our scope of things can get narrow and we can simply forget the reason we do things in the first place. Sure, it’s great for us to make small changes, that’s how the big changes usually come to pass. But I’m thinking a little deeper than that.

If all of our choices stemmed from one major choice, choosing Jesus, making the small choices that collectively make the big change would be easier.Β  Remember that saying in the 90’s, “What Would Jesus Do”? So corny right? But is it really? If we would just sit on that thought before acting and reacting, we would probably have a lot more peace and a lot less mistakes. As Christians we bare His name and are by definition called to be “Christ like”. So what does that look like? Does that mean that we are only called to be Christ like on Sundays when people are watching and expect us to be Holy? I think not. That’s like only being an America on the 4th of July. Not really an option. We carry the name of Christ and are therefore charged with the responsibility of walking like citizens of heaven under the authority of Christ (“But there is one thing I want you to know; The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man and the head of Christ is God.” 1Corinthians 11:3).

Today we are going to look Jesus directly in the face and choose His ways above our own. His will above our want. His flawless righteousness over our fleshly regard. Let’s choose His attitude, His patience, His humility, His heart and His grace. “You must have the same attitude that Christ had. Though He was equal to God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminals death on a cross.” Philippians 2:5-8. This is the picture of what it means to follow Christ. Yes we are royalty of heaven and heir with Christ Jesus but we are also called to FOLLOW Christ Jesus in His humility and service unto the world.

“For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in His steps.” 1 Peter 2:21.

Be encouraged that He is not asking you to do it alone. Choosing Him also means that you have Him to walk with in the journey. So we are going to make it real simple today. CHOOSE Jesus! No matter what CHOOSE JESUS!

Lord Jesus thank you for Your flawless example. We give You all the glory for the steps You have taken before us. Lord, clear our vision so that we can look You in the face without obstruction.Β  Show us Yours ways O Lord that we would walk in the steps that You have set before us. Today we surrender our flesh to you Jesus. We surrender personal gain and selfish motivation to You. We surrender the right to be right. We surrender our thoughts and language to you Jesus. And we Take on Your light burden. God we thank you for the freedom that comes in choosing You in all we do. In Jesus Name Amen!!!
